It's difficult to say when in our lives every one of us become mindful of this thing called "astronomy". But it is reasonable to say that at some particular point on our lives, every one of us has that moment when we are all of a sudden shocked when we come eyeball to eyeball with the scale of the universe that we see in the night sky. For lots of us who are town dwellers, we do not actually notice that sky up there on routinely. The lights of the town do a good job of disguising the wonderful display that's above all our heads all of the time. So it could be that every year holiday to a camping spot or a visit to a relative's house out in the country that we find ourselves outside when the spender of the night sky all of a sudden makes a decision to put on it's impressive show. If you had that sort of moment when you were literally struck breathless by the spender the night sky can show to us, you can remember that actual moment when you might say small else but "wow" at what you saw. That "Wow" moment is what astrology is all about. For some, that wow moment becomes a fervour that leads to a vocation studying the stars. For a fortunate few, that wow moment because an all consuming obsession that leads to them going to the stars in the shuttle or on one of our early space missions. But for many of us astrology may become an entertainment or a regular hobby.

But we carry that wow moment with us for the remainder of our lives and begin looking for techniques to look deeper and find out more about the impressive universe we see in the uncountable millions of stars above us each night. To start in learning the way to look at the stars far better, there are some elementary things we may need to look deeper, beyond just what we will see with the eye and start to look at the stars as well as enjoy them. The very first thing you want isn't kit at all but literature. A good star map will show you the major constellations, the location of the key stars we use to navigate the sky and the planets that may look bigger than stars. And if you add to that map some well done introductory materials into the past-time of astronomy, you are well on the way.

The next thing we naturally need to get is a good telescope. You'll have seen a hobbyist who is well along in their study setting up those truly cool looking telescopes on a hill somewhere. That excites the newbie astronomer in you because that has got to be the logical next step in the expansion of your pursuit. But how to get a good telescope can be downright confusing and threatening. Before you go to that large cost, it could be a better next step from the bare eye to speculate in a good set of binoculars. There are even binoculars that are suited for star gazing which will do as good employment at giving you that additional vision you need to see a little better the glories of the universe. A well designed set of binoculars also gives you much more mobility and capability to keep your "enhanced vision" in easy reach when that extraordinary view just presents itself to you. None of this discourages you from moving forward with your plans to put together an awe-inspiring telescope system. Just be sure you get quality recommendation and coaching on the way to configure your telescope to meet your wishes. Using these guiding principles, you'll enjoy hours of pleasure stargazing at the unusual sights in the night sky that are outside the exposed eye.
